Do you allow the use of military-style firearms (AR-15’s, MAK-90’s, SKS’s)?
Yes. However, keep in mind that it is your responsibility to know ALL of the laws pertaining to you and the firearms you own.
How many private ranges do you offer? How big are they?
We have 15 private ranges and they vary from 45 yards to just under 200 yards.
As a member, can I reserve a private range?
Private ranges are available to all members on a first-come, first-served basis.
Can I use my hi-capacity magazines?
Yes. However, keep in mind that it is your responsibility to know ALL of the laws as they pertain to the use and ownership of hi-capacity magazines.
What kind of food do you sell?
We sell soda, water, chips and cookies for $1.
What’s the biggest caliber I can shoot there?
We allow all calibers up to and including .50 BMG.
What’s the longest distance offered there?
The rifle range has a maximum distance of 210 yards and 75 yards on the pistol range. During the week (Monday through Friday) we offer a 500 yard rifle range for an additional $5. We advise you to call ahead as this range is not always available.
How do I reserve a private range for my group?
Private ranges are $20 per person with an $80 minimum. $80 covers the first 4 shooters and any additional shooters are $20 each. You can reserve a private range in person or over the phone: 626-910-1344. A $20 deposit will be taken over the phone with a credit card and the remaining balance is due on the morning of your arrival. We strongly encourage you to call 2-3 weeks in advance.
Why is certain ammunition not allowed at certain times? How can I check to see if the ammunition is allowed?
Steel-jacketed and bi-metal ammunition is not allowed during the dry months of the year due to fire danger. However, we do allow this ammunition to be used during the wet season. The wet months vary from year to year and we will inform you of the start and finish of each season. You can check your ammunition for the presence of steel by touching a magnet to the bullet. Keep in mind that both tracer (orange tip) and steel-core (green tip) ammunition is never allowed.
Can I use my own target frame?
Yes, provided that they do not contain any type of metal. We recommend using plastic pvc tubing or wood. Wooden pallets and cardboard movie cut-outs are not considered frames.
Do I need to purchase a U.S. Forest Service ‘Adventure Pass’ in order to shoot there?
No you do not. If you plan on visiting or parking anywhere outside of Burro Canyon then you do need to purchase an Adventure Pass at the ranger station or other participating retailer.
Do you offer any type of formal firearms training?
We have a number of highly professional and qualified firearms trainers who call Burro Canyon home.
Can I shoot all of my guns for one range fee?
Yes. Your range fee allows you to shoot all of your shotguns, rifles and pistols. We allow you to move between the rifle and pistol ranges as often as you like.
Do I have to buy your ammunition or can I bring my own?
No, you do not need to buy our ammunition but we do offer very competitive prices on the most common calibers. (LINK TO AMMO PAGE HERE)
Do you allow black powder firearms?
Yes.
Can I bring my barbeque if I rent a private range?
Yes, you can bring up your propane or gas grill. Charcoal grills are not allowed.
Can I use my holster?
Yes, but only on private ranges.
I’ve never been to your range; what should I bring with me?
Bring your firearms of course and whatever else you feel you may need while shooting in the beautiful Angeles National Forest. We carry the most common ammunition calibers along with paper targets, biodegradable clays, throwers, eye and ear protection and rifle rests.
What are the benefits of becoming a member?
Members are free to visit the park as often as they’d like without having to pay any range fees. Members are allowed to bring one guest per visit and are allowed to use a private range on a first-come, first-served basis.
I don’t really like shooting at paper targets; what am I allowed to bring up there?
We allow the use of steel targets on the pistol and private ranges. Steel targets must be placed at a safe distance. Steel targets are never allowed on the rifle range. As an alternative to paper targets, we sell bowling pins and biodegradable clay pigeons. Fruit and vegetables are allowed and provide a fun alternative to paper.
Do you allow rapid-fire?
Yes, provided that it is done safely. The range officer, at his discretion, has the authority to restrict rapid-fire for any reason.
I’m a police officer and I’d like to do some training on my own; can you accommodate me?
Yes! Private ranges are best suited for this type of shooting.
Can I use airguns there?
Yes. Airguns are permitted on all of the ranges. Please keep in mind that targets on the rifle range must be placed at a minimum distance of 50 yards.
Can I shoot my bow and arrow?
Yes. You are free to use a bow and arrow on all of our private ranges.
Do you rent firearms?
No we do not.
Do you sell clay throwers?
Yes. We rent hand-throwers for $10 and spring-loaded throwers for $20 per day.
Do I have to be a member to shoot there?
No. Everyone is welcome to come and enjoy a day of shooting at the park.
If I reserve a private range what time do I have to be there?
We encourage those who reserve a private range to arrive as early as possible so that you can get the most out of your day. If you plan to arrive after 9:00AM, we ask that you call to let us know. You can also advise us of your arrival time while making your reservation.
